The truckdriver plays an important role in our world. My son drove trucks for 13 years. One might think that to be the greatest job, getting to see the country and all. But it's a lonesome road. No family for days or weeks at a time. You can't just stand up and go to the kitchen for a glass of milk or run to the bathroom whenever you need to. No way to see your child's ball game or school play. No home-cooked meals out on the road. Sleeping in the truck. It takes a special breed to be a trucker and I am so glad we have them. They must always have instant reflexes to keep from running over those of us who don't have enough sense to stay back a safe distance...those who refuse to give them the turning room they need...
Because without those special men and women, we wouldn't have fresh fruit or veggies at the grocery store. Buying jeans at WalMart or Target would be too expensive to consider. eBay purchases would be out of the question. Medicines and medical supplies would hard to come by.
Next time you see a trucker on the road, pretend they are your son or daughter, or your mother or father, show them a little common curtesy. Remember when driving behind one, if you're so close you can't see their side mirror, they can't see you. And that is a very dangerous place for you. Have you ever seen what happens when one on those great big tires blows out? I know I don't want that hitting my windshield at any speed or distance.
